Last week on the campus of University of Las Vegas Nevada, the Nevada Women’s Film Festival screened 47 films from around the world featuring marginalized voices, strong female protagonists, and all passing the Bechdel test.

Not only do we have a female protagonist, but one of the female characters is more of a badass than any of the men. And at the end of the film, we have the music of a group of women.
Jose Anthony

I performed in two films that premiered at this 11th anniversary NWFF: the highly anticipated and well received feature length comedy “Riot in Bloom”; and “Session”, a short dramedy set in a court ordered group therapy session. Written and directed by Jose Anthony, “Session” was nominated for the Best Nevada Film award.
Basically, it’s about five characters who attend a court ordered therapy session and reveal a little more than is necessary.
It was an exciting honor to be nominated alongside so many outstanding films!

The esteemed jury awarded the Femmy for Best Nevada Film to “Margaret the Brave”, which was very well deserved. (Watch the adventure drama fantasy short film directed by Danny Chandia, and you will see what I mean!)

The final award of the night was the Audience Favorite award. After the last screening of the festival, the votes cast by the audience over the course of all 47 films are counted. The film with the most votes for Audience Favorite was “Session”!
What a thrilling surprise! Lizette Hunter and I accepted the Femmy Award for Audience Favorite film on behalf of Jose Anthony and “Session”.

Thank you Nevada Women’s Film Festival staff, volunteers, donors, and audience for making premiere of “Session” a delightful and unforgettable success.
